Every year MG&O makes grants to a variety of non-profit organizations that work at the local, national or international level. Applications are reviewed by the committee and selected for fit with the Matthew mission statement and alignment with priorities identified through surveys of the Congregation.
MG&O conducts surveys of FCC members to identify priority needs to which MG&O should direct its grant-giving. In 2015, our survey confirmed FCC’s top three priorities as homelessness, abuse & neglect, and hunger. Our preference is to support local organizations, but we also support national and international causes. In 2017, the Congregation affirmed through an additional survey support for a broad span of programs serving the homeless.
In 2017, we supported 14 organizations with operating, program, and strategic impact grants totaling $42,500. Because of a reduced Mission Giving budget, this was a significant reduction from previous years, and our emphasis was on support for the homeless.
