YOGA AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

“Namasté” is a Sanskrit word that is often used as a greeting.
Traditionally the hands are brought together with the thumbs touching the heart area (a prayer position), and the word is offered – sometimes with a bow added. It is a beautiful gesture full of symbolic and spiritual meaning. It has been translated many ways, by my favorite is simple. It means, “ Honor the divine in you.” When two or more exchange this greeting, it is a way for each to recognize the Divine Presence in the other. It’s a way for us to see that we are all connected in the deepest possible way. I’ve never been to a yoga class that did not end with the exchange of “Namasté” between teacher and student. In a yoga class or home practice, at it’s essence, we are taking time to seek the Divine Presence in our own selves. How wonderful to end that time with extending whatever level of recognition we received out to those around us! Namasté.

Yoga Classes every Wednesday in the Founder's Room at 5:30 p.m.
