"...and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6: 8)
What is a Micah 6 Church?
Micah 6 takes it name and its mission from this prophetic scripture text that embraces the essence of faithfulness. Micah 6 congregations walk daily in intimate companionship with the God of all creation, become more actively engaged in the work of justice in the community and display a heart of compassion, love and mercy for others. As congregations journey through the Micah 6 program, they are renewed, centered and strengthened in their calling to serve others in the name of Jesus Christ. (adopted by congregational vote January 26, 2003)
Micah 6 Covenant In response to Micah’s call to faithfulness and Jesus’ similar call to discipleship through justice, mercy, and humble communion with God, the Membership of First Congregational Church of Colorado Springs commits ourselves to active participation as a Micah 6 Congregation. We make this covenant as part of a broader community of Micah 6 Congregations which support each other in living the vision of Micah 6:8. The prophet proclaims justice, mercy and humble communion as three dimensions of a life of faithfulness. Micah 6 Congregations will embody this integrated vision in our ministries of justice, kindness, and spiritual growth. We will enrich all ministries with Micah 6 commitments and insight so that all areas of church life witness to the full breadth of our discipleship. Our congregation will walk with and support the poor and forgotten, listening to them and advocating with them for a more equitable and compassionate society. We will provide direct assistance to those in need and work to assure opportunity for individual and community development. We will seek to involve all members of our congregation in these endeavors. Our worship and education will give us spiritual energy for the journey and will witness to God’s command that we “Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God."
