JAMES W. WHITE ENDOWED LECTURESHIP 2008
Rev. Walter Bruggemann
May 2, 3, 4, 2008
Walter Brueggemann,
author of “Mandate to Difference,” discussed the “Journey to the
Common Good” at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2008 at Colorado College’s
Shove Memorial Chapel, 1010 N. Nevada Ave., located on the College
Campus. The event was free and open to the public. Walter
Brueggemann is one of the most widely read, widely quoted, and most
influential interpreters of the Old Testament in the Christian
community. Brueggemann has spent his lifetime in Scripture study, its
imaginative redescription of the world, its summons to a life of
compassion and justice, and its lyrical offer of an alternative. His
recent book, Mandate to Difference, is a study in fresh possibilities
for the church and for those in our society who cannot any longer
countenance the lethal policies and destructive practices of our
society. He understands that the irascible holiness of God is a taproot
of an alternative perception of society and church.
Gifts to the James W. White Lectureship Endowment are still welcome and can be made to First Congregational Church, noting the James W. White Endowment in the memo section of the check. May 4, 2008 - "Nazareth Writ Large" sermon by Dr. Walter Brueggemann
